[Mind's Eye] Re: "Beyond 'New Atheism'" By Gary Gutting

Not at all James. This is in answer to the piece that Rigsy so
kindly linked to.

In essance it asks how can atheism replace the morality that come
along with religious faith. To my mind it is a null question as
morality is there ever before a child is old enough to hear about
God. Yes of course ones religion may colour or even shape further one
morality, but there really is nothing for atheism to attempt to
replace.

My indignation comes more from the tone of the piece. I have my
morality, it is a fine and strong one, and I see no need for anybody
and certianly not this athiest to choose that my morality is lacking
and it needs to be guided by this man.

When anybody asks the question, how can (insert group here) replace
this morality with our own, that jars me and sends thye bells
ringging. Just put the question in the mouths of Cristians or Islam
for example and see how atheists feel.
