It's easy to romanticise native peoples until one remembers their
wars, territory grabs, human sacrifice, slave labor and cannibalism,
etc. so we're back to the drawing board re human behavior, aren't we?
I think a major attraction is the simplicity- we think- of native life
and self-contained tribes.
I found "shaman" to be of Asian origin which makes sense with the
Northwest Coast Indians. Russia owned AK and along with British and
American plunders have a sorry history- esp. the killing of seal
babies so their "ladies" back home would not be weighed down with
heavier furs.
