politics - usually focusing on the indexing of the media by its
professionals so only small parts of possible debate can take place in
media space. Manuel Castells is a 'name' in the area and he did an
interesting piece on how the lies on the Iraq War were promulgated by
Bush-Blair. Google turns it up.
The BBC's economic reporting is dire - and yet in free speech terms
one can find much better analysis - so why is the BBC so bad? Fox is
even more facile. One of the eventual questions once one realises
people don't hear evidence, is why speaking out is so ineffective.
Again, we already have some answers, but they include most people
being kept in a form of perpetual childhood, which is rather elitist.
Free speech under the Soviets was termed Samizdat, but they also used
to say that our own false-consciousness was formed by detective
novels, advertising and so on. In the end we have to get to grips
with what we have right to impose on others - such as a media space of
genuine free speech or even the idea we can form truth that decent
people should accept.
