This is a google group, and it is accessible via any browser. If someone wants to join our google group and not only read, they need to have a google account and an email address (not necessarily a google address, unless google has changed that by now). I am actually having problems with the new groups in the google browser Chrome, which is one reason I prefer communicating directly via email. - I remember Chris' attempt to migrate over to www.gravity.com and if you look at the site now, I am glad we didn't give this up here altogether. It always amazes me how people think they could get rid of their history and everything would be better then.
Google+ is too open and too much focused on the outward orientation of the individual to be counted as group software. There is no group space. There is community platforms. In my German context I know mixxt communities, for instance.

this group can be accessed and bookmarked on any browser, we are not
limited to google only. I think Chris' attempt to migrate us over to
Google+ showed me many things, including what a time investment it is
to establish myself on another group platform. Is google groups going
away?
