actually the greatest part of this is done by the US..  the problem there is it violates the Constitution of the USA..

the the problem comes from that massive bunch of laws passed during the Weasel Bush Era..  the 4th amendment guarantees privacy (recommended reading)   these laws were passed with out thinking..  the problems is they can not knowingly pass laws that violate laws of the US  but they do it anyway.

Governments and non government agency spy and collect one everyone..  actually I think it is the non government people that scare the hell out of me as there is no check and balance at all..

I think we could have some good debate on transparency.  I see the idea of transparent finance very good, Big Brother very bad (or trivial on television).  But it isn't even this simple, as financial transparency makes a lot of other stuff transparent.  I would have liked an extradition treaty with Spain when I was a cop - but I'd also want Snowden to find asylum.  I like the idea of world peace, but don't want that to lead to a bunch of rabid fundamentalists taking over because they are the only ones to keep guns.  A lot of Greek argument ended this way - aporia - no way out.
