Allan, I have only glanced through a bit of the book. I see that the tradition it is based on is HIndu thought called Vedanta, which can be very difficult to understand without some previous reading of the easier parts of Hindu thought! Hindu thought can be very foreign and incomprehensible at first to the Western mind which has only been exposed to Western traditions of thought.
The "forward" starting on page 3 just after the table of contents is a biography of Nisargadatta Maharaj, the saint whose teachings are in the book. This biography might be easier to understand and give a little background.
Nisargadatta Maharaj's teachings are presented in the form of a questioner (labeled Q) and Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj (labeled M). This is a typical way of presenting a set of spiritual ideas in Hindu sacred texts - having a questioner ask the holy person a series of questions with short answers from the saint.
I suggest that you not try to read 18 pages! First start with the biography part and see if that makes sense to you. Then read only one page at a time of the questions and answers and think about that for a week!! But it still may not be something that your soul can connect with. There are many ways and many paths for our souls to evolve toward the ideal of "do no harm." If a path is not speaking to your soul, then it's not for you!

I must be lost Molly I have managed to read 18 difficult pages,, and I have yet to understand what he or rather they are saying. I am not sure whether it is two people talking or one person talking to himself..I am not trying to read my thoughts into what they are saying..--

Life is for moral, ethical and truthful living.
Of course I talk to myself,
Sometimes I need expert advice..
