Mind's Eye the Athenian Democracy as a dark stain

Does "real democracy" mean responsive governance ?
Or, participative ?

I find democracy, as a system, still beset with the same problems that Plato highlights. Yet, its prsctice today has the sanction of our historical evolution. The problem is essentially rooted in human nature, while handling power and authority to rule.

Technology can certainly help ... But the real crux is in human character : will it always choose right, when it has the power to have his way.
