Mind's Eye Poetry

Haiku is not about syllables in a ridgid format.  The three Line format tends to stop the long windedness of may writers (myself included) and saying nothing (guilty) especially when writing the formal poetry I was taught in school.
When I first read about haiku I understood they were tryi to connect their feelings with their world around them. Today the connection might be:

Wreckless driver
Almost ran me over as I walked
Stupid idiot.

Not that it happened but at the same time more than once the idea is to capture a moment in time. (the now).
Each three line segment should be basically a complete independent thought and continuation in the next segment a stand alone but mutable segments are an expansion (?????? is a valid response)
My understanding also included that some Haiku poem where community written where one person writes his 3 lines the passes the paper to the person next to them then passes the paper on to the next person until they ran  out of paper then they read out loud without editing for the enjoyment of everyone.. and did (or does) it really matter who wrote what?
