The use of screen names has undercut certain aspects of the internet-
some reasonable, others not. But no one quibbles about Mark Twain or
George Sand, etc.. or code names for military or spy operations. The
veracity of an opinion does not really depend on a real or invented
name, does it? The fact remains. The legal aspects of identification,
criminal charges, etc. must make fake names a nightmare for
investigators but surveillance seems to be constantly improving until
the other side of the issue is protection of privacy. Another issue is
context and intent.
