It has been some time since I've read anything on it Allan, and I think
recent knowledge points strongly toward human migration occurring too
fast and with broad selection/mating diversity (rather than narrow such
as in dog breeding) for a large number of very pronounced differences.
In terms of variation I think it is safe to say we are all one species
(sociology and anthropology do use the term 'race' _carefully_),
ethnicity if I remember is more associated with cultural identity but
that traditionally includes kinship traits. Acclimation to the natural
and human environments I think is pretty well dispersed with the dials
perhaps tweaked a little in favor of local specialties. Gene expression
is highly adaptable just in a lifetime the body can acclimate to
different environments, childhood and perhaps even season of birth may
have an effect on what one's dials are tuned toward. Then there's
epigenetics where increased tendencies can be inherited by single
generations, I believe obesity, substance abuse and some other disorders
have been studied for this effect. I think the general rule is in favor
of nurture, it is not what one has but what they do with it, and culture
would do well to heed such a pragmatic maxim.
Information is passing through the organism on every level and every
direction, that's how I see it mentally, even if I have many dark areas
of knowledge. In a way one could be seen as a vessel of impressions,
undergoing transformations as all other things do. It is not in the
nature of a rock to behave as we, but what is alive, I think all things.
Even we are not as we think, IMO! That's subjective observations again..
It has been hot lately Rigsy, subterranean dwelling has benefits in heat
and cold, maybe we'll revisit the electric trolley when we move
everything underground. Of course it wouldn't be complete without high
altitude wind turbines and microwave receivers to replace the elec-grid.
Does anyone find the state of the world a bit irritating? Sometimes I'm
just amazed it doesn't fall apart, but then I remember these are living
creatures and being advanced means being easily bored, we thrive on
frontiers. :)
