I've been looking at database technology that can subsume existing
database material automatically (databases are often written in
mutually exclusive languages that make easy data transfer
impossible). Part of the idea is about flagging up stuff, say, like
Jimmy Saville's sex-criminal occurrences from sources recording
complaints rather than convictions. This looks like a good idea - but
lurking in the background of anything like this are rights and privacy
issues. Something similar is in the Allan-Gabby conversation above -
the group could be more open but this also makes us open to trolls and
the rest. There's a difference between, say, me posting pics of Max
to share his cuteness and someone promoting a sect.

A lot of technology is developing at the moment that could change
argument as we have known it. Saville would have been put away long
ago if we had been able to collect the complaints against him and use
evidence from different complainants in support of each other - the
same is true of a number of other rapists I know about. My interests
are not in the criminal sphere now. Banking has been involved in a
number of areas in which its ability to isolate complainants has
allowed it to mis-sell hopeless products lie ppi (insurance that would
almost never pay out), interest rate swaps and so on. Many big
companies have been trading and avoiding tax and so on. Technology
could make a lot of this 'bullying' much more difficult to get away
with, but at the same time could threaten freedoms.
