Re: Mind's Eye Re: Search Engine As God

I don't recall reading Heinlein or McLuhan but this reminds me a little
of Clan of the Cave Bear in how an air of magic and mystery surrounded
the powers of mastery for the neanderthalic characters which Ayla was
disruptive of by counting much faster and higher and developing refined
throwing weapons. After early childhood it was one of the few fiction
books I've read.

My usage of search is a bit odd, I refuse to browse the second page of
results, and if I cannot find a clue to refine my question onto the
first page I go back to trying to solve the problem myself for a bit. I
hope this somehow benefits their algorithms because it can be a bit
agressive, I probably do thousands a year like that on top of normal
curiosity.

It just sank into my thick cranium, in this case the latent capacities
have more opportunity to surface as the barriers (illusory even?) to
expressing them are diminished. I like this point but think we are
struggling as it is to digest the new world, we are severely restricted
in the delivery mechanisms and quality of information, and the means of
contributing are badly outmoded. I have been thinking of group behavior
from a sensor network standpoint and we seem to behave in a very
isolated fashion gravitating around small sets of knowledge rather than
deriving schematic or systems level intelligence of cooperation in
massive realtime environments. The tech to me is another tool, it could
be much more than an opiate or pleasure inducing portal. I have my eye
on many of the things Andrew was talking about for micr-participatory
interaction with processes and environments, but also knowledge and
observations. I make hundreds of tiny ones a day but have nowhere to put
them, even the big ones pass like a dust devil. The available wikis and
information stores seem more of congregation/aggregation spaces and I
have no chance of keeping up with Reddit or the others. What I would
like to see is a decentralized information grid with fuzzy atoms of
information (perhaps like OWL or semantic markup) and a participatory
model better than vote up/down (mostly useless).

I've been debating learning FORTH to pursue my interests in intelligent
sensor grids, mainly to get price down under a dollar each and run for a
year off a AA battery. My illusion seems to be absence of time and
resources. :)
