Interesting question. The cynic in me thinks all love is conditional. On returned love, respect and/or dependence. An accurate and agreed upon definition of 'love' is necessary as well. You didn't specify romantic love but it is implied when you exempt related adults. Again, my instincts tell me you gotta be gettin' to give. Otherwise it's just downright creepy. If you are referring to the 'religious' love this means something else entirely. Is having empathy and caring about someone's wants and needs and a feeling of responsibility for them due to my own good economic fortune and their destituteness 'love' or is it guilt?

Is it really possible or probable for unconditional love to develop and be maintained between unrelated adults? What effect does trust in the relationship have for the giver and receiver? Is this ultimately a one way or two way love?
